The Spice Valley Homestay, Munnar

A family-run homestay nestled among cardamom and pepper plantations on the slopes above Munnar at 1,800 metres. The four guest rooms open onto a wraparound veranda with uninterrupted views of the Anamala range. Suresh and Latha Pillai have farmed this land for three generations. Latha’s cooking is legendary among repeat guests: a breakfast of appam, puttu, fresh banana and homemade chutneys sets the tone for the day. Dinners are served family-style and typically include fresh river fish, elephant yam thoran, and payasam.
