The complete insider guide to Thrissur Pooram 2026 — the full 36-hour schedule, where to stand, how to book 6 months early.
Thrissur Pooram is the event that defines Kerala for those who have witnessed it — two million people, 100 decorated elephants, and a percussion competition so loud and intricate it has no equivalent anywhere on Earth.
When and Where
Thrissur Pooram 2026 falls on 10 May. Venue: Vadakkunnathan Temple, Thrissur. Main events span 36 hours.
The 36-Hour Schedule
3:00 AM Day 1: Pre-dawn elephant procession in firelight — the most mystical moment, with just thousands (not millions) present.
8 AM–12 PM Day 1: Kudamattam (umbrella exchange) — the visual centrepiece where two temple teams alternate ceremonial umbrella displays to roaring crowd approval.
2–6 PM Day 1: Panchavadyam — the percussion orchestra competition in five instruments that accelerates and intensifies over four hours. The finale is overwhelming.
3–5 AM Day 2: Vedikettu — fireworks considered the finest in Asia, visible from 20 km.
