Overview

Munnar is Kerala’s most celebrated hill station, nestled in the Western Ghats at an altitude of 1,600 metres above sea level. The name means “three rivers” in Malayalam — referring to the confluence of the Muthirapuzha, Nallathanni and Kundala rivers. Famous for its endless carpets of tea estates, misty peaks and cool climate, Munnar offers a refreshing escape from Kerala’s tropical heat.

The Eravikulam National Park — home to the endangered Nilgiri Tahr — and Anamudi (2,695 m), South India’s highest peak, are the key attractions. The KDHP Tea Museum chronicles the history of tea cultivation since the 1880s, when the British planted the first estates. Stay in a plantation bungalow for sunrise views over the mist-filled valleys.
